Little Miss Daffodil & Honor Escort Contest

44th Little Miss Daffodil


               

  • All girls, kindergarten through grade five, are eligible to become “Little Miss Daffodil”.
  • One young lady is randomly selected from each of Meriden’s 8 elementary public schools.* The 8 finalists will take part in the “Little Miss Daffodil” crowning ceremony and selection of her “Honor Escort”, Wednesday May 1st, 2024, 6:30 P.M. in Hubbard Park. The Mayor of Meriden, or a delegate, will select the”Little Miss” and her “Honor Escort “, by lot, from the 8 finalists.
  • All finalists receive a variety of gifts for participating. In addition, the young lady chosen “Little Miss daffodil” receives a special gift package.
  • To enter, submit your application by Thursday, March 21st, 2024 to your school office. Calls to selected participants will be made on Monday March 25th 2024 between the hours of 6:00pm – 7:00pm.  Unfortunately, if you do not answer the call we will have to select another candidate.  We will not leave a message.
  • Pictures for the will be on Saturday April 8th at 10:15am for the girls

  • All boys, kindergarten through grade five, are eligible to become “Honor Escort” for Little Miss Daffodil.
  • One young man is randomly selected from each of Meriden’s 9 elementary public and parochial schools.* The 8 finalists will take part in the “Little Miss Daffodil” crowning ceremony and selection of her “Honor Escort”, Wednesday May 1st, 2024, 6:30 P.M. in Hubbard Park. The Mayor of Meriden, or a delegate, will select the “Honor Escort “, by lot, from the 8 finalists.

The Application Process:

Little Miss Daffodil and her Honor Escort are chosen by lot from applications which have been sent out through the Meriden elementary schools and parochial schools. Applications have gone out to all Meriden schools and should be returned to the school by Thursday, March 21st, 2024. This event is open to children who attend Meriden schools only!

  • Monday, March 25th, 2024, 6–7 pm: Phone calls to pick one contestant from each school. If you receive a call on this date, you will need to be available for the following days and times.
  • Tentative Date Saturday, April , 2024, 10–11 am: Pictures (details will be given to the contestant during phone call on March 25th)
  • Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, 6:30 pm: Ceremony
  • Saturday, May 4th, 2024: All contestants will march in the parade.

Meriden elementary schools receive ballots for Little Miss Daffodil and Honor Escort contestants. The ballots are returned to the school and are then returned to the Committee. On the scheduled day (which will be detailed on the ballot information sheet), one boy and one girl will be selected from each school. The children’s parents will be called on that evening to ensure the child can be present for all scheduled events. Messages are not left – in the event of no answer, the committee goes to the next child; cell phone numbers are accepted. The winner will be selected from the group of school candidates by drawing a name from a special ballot box on the Wednesday night before the Festival.
